About Steel

Steel Smith is a senator at Long Island University dedicated to enhancing the overall student experience. A Finance major and Division I football player, he brings discipline, leadership, and a results-driven mindset to his role. Within the School of Business, Steel serves as Sector Head of the LIU Investment Fund, where he leads research and investment strategy for a student-managed portfolio, and is actively involved as a member of the Accounting Society and LIU-IQ Consulting. Steel is passionate about creating a balanced college environment that prioritizes both academic excellence and an engaging student life, ensuring students are challenged in the classroom while also having access to meaningful and memorable experiences on campus. He is also a strong advocate for financial responsibility within student government, believing that SGA funds should be managed with discipline and used in ways that create real value for the student body. Through his leadership, accountability, and commitment to service, Steel strives to build a stronger, more connected campus community while ensuring student voices are effectively represented.
