Vote In The SGA Elections!!
First, you will need to collect the appropriate signatures via the Interest Form. You will need 10-15 signatures from interested students.
Once the appropriate signatures are collected, you will be prompted to complete a Student Organization Request Form. Within this form, you will be required to submit additional information about your club including a constitution, mission statement, and roster.
Once the form is received, a student representative from the requested New Student Organization must present the club request and a breakdown of the budget in front of the Senate at our weekly SGA General Body Meeting. Currently, meetings are held every Thursday at 5 PM in the Gold Coast Cinema.
After the presentation, the Senate will vote on the request and will notify the organization representative within 24 hours via email of the decision. If approved, the New Student Organization will be granted RSO Status and will be prompted to fill out the Registration Form to get placed on LIU's Experience Shark Nation Website.
The Interest Form will ask for your name, LIU ID, email, phone number, and the club that you are interested in. Each student who is interested in this club has to fill out this form themselves. Be sure that each person types the same name for the club to ensure we tally the interest correctly. Once this form hits 10 submissions, the Center for Student Success will reach out to you with next steps, which should be just the next form to fill out. If you do not hear back from the Center for Student Success reach out to us at post-sga@my.liu.edu. If you are being prohibited in any way from moving along in the recognition process, reach out to us immediately.
The Request Form will ask you for your club's Mission Statement, Roster, and your eboard's contact information, including LIU ID, LIU Email, and Phone Number. It will also ask some questions such as how your organization will benefit the campus, how it will foster personal growth and development, and how your organization's recognition by the university will aid in accomplishing your mission. Lastly it will also ask for a proposed budget and budget breakdown for the remainder of the year.
You will get up on stage, whether that is behind the podium or wherever you feel most comfortable on stage, and you will speak to any relevant information we should know about your club. You can discuss what your club will do, events you may have planned, ideas you are thinking of doing, and anything you feel is important regarding you club.
If you would like to, you can bring a presentation, handouts, or any supplemental material to make your case for the club to be approved. Presentations, handouts, and other supplemental materials are not required, so if you feel you can make your case verbally, feel free to come without anything.
You can bring as many eboard members or club members with you as you would like, you can all talk or just one of you, whatever makes you most comfortable. Be prepared to answer questions from the Senate about your club, why it should be on campus, and what makes it unique.
The Registration Form will place your club on our Experience Shark Nation Website. Fill this out ONLY after you receive confirmation from the SGA that your club is approved. This form will again ask for your club's Mission Statement, Roster, and 1 person's contact email that will be displayed on the Experience Shark Nation Website. It will also ask for a cover image for the website, your club's constitution, and faculty advisor.
